Our Home Renovation Part 2

Really I thought about calling this post, “How to Survive a Home Renovation” but I am trying to stay positive here people. We are in full swing renovation mode over here at the Kind of Coastal Cape Cod and while it might be too soon to tell, things are actually going quite smoothly! I have been documenting the progress over on our YOUTUBE channel so go take a peek if you are nosey like me! We are still a few months away from the finish line but I am happy to share the walls are up, the mechanical lines are moved and things are on schedule for a July finish.

Our cabinets will be a mix of pickled oak and a creamy off while color. Super unique I know…I am trying to warm things up a bit while keeping it light and airy. The island is going to have the most dainty reeded apron detail that should help make it feel more bespoke. The countertops still need to be finalized… of course my expensive taste went right for Calcatta Gold Marble. The deep grey veining with touches of gold will be the main focal point of the kitchen. The way I see it, go big or go home, right? Once we have the marble installed on the cabinetry the will decide if we will run the backsplash up the entire wall behind the range or go half way with a shelf. See even us designers leave certain details til the end of the job. Sometimes it is best to see how things are coming together before we finalize EVERY single detail of the design.

We are doing some small curb appeal updates while the house is in shambles… Our skylight was leaking and it always drove me slightly crazy that it was not perfectly centered between the two dormers in the first place. While I was really really nervous about matching new shingles to the old roof I am so glad we decided to close it up! To make sure the shingles would blend better we had the roof power washed with a bleach formula to lighten up the original shingles. The new shingles will fade over time but I must admit even my trained eye can hardly tell the difference now that it has been a few weeks.

We also added flagstone to the front step, new copper lanterns and will hopefully be updating the front door. I will likely do a separate before and after montage to our old exterior so be sure to check it us out on INSTAGRAM for that update once my hydrangeas are in bloom!
